Martirio, capítulo XVII

 

¡Melancólicas existencias, las de Bastián y la mía!, y los desenlaces de los asesinados y desaparecidos. Mi obra póstuma (quiero yo) versará de ellos y de la Violencia castellana. Un país de infamia y olvido, monstruoso, anacrónicamente ambiguo. Bastián había superado las tragedias más atroces, como David y sus apariciones; los heterónimos me hablaban al oído (al alma), alegraban de efemérides y sentimientos mi corazón.

Melancholic existences, those of Bastián and mine! And the fates of the murdered and the disappeared. My posthumous work (so I wish) will deal with them and with Castilian Violence. A country of infamy and oblivion, monstrous, anachronistically ambiguous. Bastián had overcome the most atrocious tragedies, such as David and his apparitions; the heteronyms spoke to me in whispers (to the soul), filling my heart with anniversaries and feelings, bringing it joy.

Existences mélancoliques, celles de Bastián et la mienne ! Et les dénouements des assassinés et des disparus. Mon œuvre posthume (je le veux ainsi) portera sur eux et sur la Violence castillane. Un pays d’infamie et d’oubli, monstrueux, anachroniquement ambigu. Bastián avait surmonté les tragédies les plus atroces, comme David et ses apparitions ; les hétéronymes me parlaient à l’oreille (à l’âme), emplissant mon cœur d’éphémérides et de sentiments, le réjouissant.

憂鬱な生の在り方――バスティアンと私のそれ！ そして、殺された者たちや行方不明者たちの結末。私の死後の作品（そうあってほしいのだが）は、彼らとカスティーリャの暴力について語るだろう。悪名と忘却の国、怪物的で、時代錯誤的に曖昧な国。バスティアンは、ダビデとその出現のような、最も凄惨な悲劇さえも乗り越えていた。異名たちは私の耳元（魂）に語りかけ、記念日や感情で私の心を満たし、喜びを与えてくれた。
